08.31.12

In our Mystery of History Lesson this week, we learned about Saul and his
experience on the road to Damascus. The activity we chose for today
had to do with the early believers holding to their beliefs even when
facing persecution from people like Saul.

This is Zoe's drawing of the "Good News".

This is a retelling of when Zoe chose to become a
follower of Jesus.

This is Gideon's drawing of what Jesus did so
we could be God's friend.

This is what Gideon believes about God.

Gideon having fun during his math lesson playing a counting game.

We completed the fifth book in The Chronicles of Narnia series:
"The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" by C.S. Lewis.
Zoe and Gideon made a visual book report depicting some of their favorite scenes.

Closing out the week

While listening to Mystery of History lesson one, Zoe and Gideon started their Memory Card booklets.

They made their first Memory Card for the date we learned about in Lesson One: Day of Pentecost.

Then we had a fun evening with Aunt Melanie doing temporary tattoos.

Watching spider videos.

Then introducing the kids to one of our favorite movies growing up:
"The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking".

Daily grind, whatever that means....

We started our first day of grade-level learning on August 22nd, 2012. Our first subject was Mystery of History. The kids played a game after listening to the quarter introduction of matching people/places with facts about them.

The boys had fun dressing up as Transformers together in the afternoon.

Gideon is loving his Phonics workbook.

Zoe has fun learning about sentences and their various parts
in English 2.

New Learning Experiences

Days that begin with morning appointments generally lead to more interest-led learning.

Gideon decided to make a zombie and have
some target practice.

Zoe had fun tracing her dolls.

We started a new evening tradition. Two kids go to bed,
one gets to stay up for some one-on-one time.

Organic Learning

One of our many days of organic learning. Special surprise visit this weekend from our family who have recently relocated to Colorado brought all sorts of learning experiences.

Lots of fun and play as seen in this video of the cousins dancing together.

Zoe spent some time outside with her Aunt making a dress out
of various leaves.

After a weekend of family renewal and fun, everyone has returned to their
own homes. Zoe was excited to end the evening by reading
to her brothers.

Fall is in the air....

We are doing everything possible to enjoy the change in the weather as we begin planning our learning goals for the Fall. Today we took a short trip to a nearby park for a picnic and enjoyment of the beautiful day.

Gideon and his cheese, cookie, and pepperoni sandwich creation.

Learning through play.

Gideon's Interest-Led Learning

In the last few months, Gideon has taken a special interest in guns. He has been learning about them via Youtube instructional videos as well as building his own using blocks.

When asked what extracurricular lessons he would like this fall, his response was "gun lessons". His first step started today with the shooting of a Styrofoam Quick Trip cup with an Airsoft gun.
