Splashes of Color (07/16/2012)

Decided today was the perfect day for finger painting outside. The  boys were excited about the set up.

The feeling of paint covering your hands. Apparently, not something they really enjoyed. Possibly too gloppy.

"Ewww" he says.

Experimenting with using a stick instead of his hands.

Taking a splash.

Zoe finally joined in on the fun after her experiment to mash berries into red paint didn't turn out so well.

The clean up was about as much fun as the project.

Impromptu Learning: The Best Kind (07/15/12)

After church this morning, we set out on an adventure to enjoy a rare treat out to Bentley Park in Bixby so the kids could play and enjoy the splash pad. First, we enjoyed a yummy picnic of crackers, tuna, pepperoni, and lots of cheeses.

Then the kids had fun cooling off in the splash pad. We couldn't help but enjoy it too.

What's a trip to the park without an impromptu hike? Boring. So we headed off to find a way down to the Arkansas River.

We saw lots of interesting things washed up on the shoreline. Boots, purses, sea shells. Quite a collection.

Our footwear proves the spontaneity of our hike.

Zoe found a stick and decided to use it to measure the depth of the river.

Rod showed off his mad rock-skipping skills.

We found a beautiful weathered log to take a rest.

The maximum level of enjoyment had been reached.

So we found the spot we used to climb (i.e. slide) down to the river bank and started the trek upward.

We felt the kids had earned an ice cream treat after their whine-free climb.

You know it was a good day when it ends like this.
