Of Art and Bunny Baths (06/30/12)

Zoe's art was inspired by our project this morning.

Gideon did a fantastic job sweeping up after we moved the bunny
habitats into the playroom.

Zoe kept Gothy calm while Rod got her bath ready.

Gideon waiting patiently for Gothy's bath to be ready.

Toby decided to join Gothy.

Project Bunny Bath: success.

Zoe's Reading Progress (06/28/12)

Every morning during breakfast, I read a section from this Bible book to the kids.

Today Zoe said she wanted to read for us so that I could enjoy my breakfast.
Here's today's reading from Esther 3. She read the entire chapter.

LEGOs and History (06/26/12)

100+ degree weather is keeping us busy indoors this week. Today we had a LEGO party and watched two episodes of "America: The Story of Us" in honor of Independence Day next week.

Playing and building together. Doesn't get any better.

Summer Reading Program

Zoe, Gideon, and Tobyn were excited to sign up for the summer reading program at the library. This is their first huge selection of books to read.

Our first attempt at laying outside and reading our books.

They completed the program by reading twenty books and visiting the library four times. They each received a medal, a stuffed bat that went with this year's theme, and a book of coupons.

Swimming Lessons 06/12-06/23

Zoe and Gideon were so excited to get to take swim lessons for the second summer in a row. We got to go to a new facility with the Tulsa Parks system this year, though.

Gideon got to slide down the huge slide at the end of his first week of classes.

Gideon was saying "that was fun!"

We started out the second week of swim lessons with overcast skies, so it was quite chilly getting out of the water.

Toby had fun running and playing while Zoe and Gideon were in their lessons. He was excited to watch Zoe slide down the slide.

Zoe and Gideon were so proud to have completed their swim lesson levels.

If it's broken, fix it.... (06/15/12)

We broke out the original XBOX for the kids to have in the playroom. Unfortunately, it was having trouble reading discs, so Rod and Gideon cracked it open (figuratively) and Gideon learned about the inner workings of the machine.

After cleaning it and putting it back together, they turned the XBOX on and waited in anticipation to see if they had fixed it. As you can see, Gideon was overjoyed that they had been able to fix it. Love the pride and sense of accomplishment in his eyes.

A Nature Study: Rabbits 06/15/12

Meet our new pet bunny: Gray Ninja. He is a sweet and docile bunny after being a classroom pet for a year. We plan to find him a mate and are excited at the prospect of seeing baby bunnies come to life. Excited about all of the things we will learn as we take care of Gray Ninja and his offspring.

Cupcake Making 06/14/12

Zoe picked our project for the day: baking strawberry cupcakes in ice cream cones. I remember thinking they were the most amazing things as a kid. She felt the same way. Zoe had fun reading the directions, measuring the water and oil. When it came to the eggs, though, she did not want to risk having to dig shell out of the mixture. So, Gideon enjoyed cracking the eggs for us. A fun, joint project.

Tobyn enjoyed the fruits of our labor.

The finished product. Much better than any treat is the excitement they had at creating something together.
